State Industries Department Principal Secretary Vijay Raghwan, at a press conference in Patna on Thursday, said the Nitish government, since coming into power nearly two years ago, had cleared over 100 proposals to set up industries in various sectors including power, sugar, and cement to the tune of over Rs. 37,000 crores.
"The government has given the go-ahead nod to a number of projects and is in the process of acquiring lands for the purpose. Once this process is completed, power, sugar, cement, and other industries will be set up in various parts of the state that will start showing results in next few years fetching more than 1 lakh new jobs for the residents of Bihar," Raghwan said.
The Principal Secretary also said the government had taken several measures to rebuild the state's infrastructure that have so far been missing in the state causing its current economic morass.
"These lands are being acquired without any political or governmental pressure. In many cases, the villagers are voluntarily giving up their lands to private investors in exchange for fair prices," said Raghwan.
