The Navy is planning to set up a Naval support base at Paradip and an 'air enclave' near Biju Patnaik airport here, Commanding Officer of INS Chilka, commodore MVS Kumar said.
The Indian Navy already had a patch of 20 acres of area close to Paradip Port which could be developed into a Naval support base, to cater to the logistic requirement of the Naval warships and aircraft, he told a press conference here yesterday.
"Paradip would be the fourth place in Eastern Sea Board where such facilities could be made available for the Naval ships of Eastern Command, the commodore said.
Regarding the proposed 'air enclave', he said it would provide exclusive space for the Naval aircraft landing in Bhubaneswar.
"The proposal is in the final stage of getting clearance", he added.
Kumar was talking to reporters about the Indian Navy's week-long celebration, scheduled to start from December 4. Besides blood donation camp, INS Chilika had chalked out a number of events to celebrate the week.
During the week, Kumar said the Naval officers would train at least 100 youths from different districts on how to rescue people during flood and natural calamities.
Other events planned during the week were country boat race and swimming, medical/health camp, Chilka Lake Mouth Sailing Expedition, Navy Band Concert, Governor's Day at Sea and others.
