In its endeavour to enable the college and university teachers to acquire latest knowledge in their related field and disseminate the same to their pupils in the classrooms, the chancellor's office has, of late, initiated an ambitious project of providing laptops to the willing teachers.
In its recent circular addressed to the vice-chancellors of all the universities, the chancellor's office asked the universities to prepare a list of teachers from different colleges and university departments who are willing to have a laptop. The list of willing teachers would then be sent to the chancellor's office for assessment of the total number of laptops required.
This project, which is the brainchild of R Krishna Kumar, OSD to governor, aims at supporting and encouraging teachers to make use of modern technology for acquiring subject-related knowledge and to transmit the same to the future generation. The state government has been requested to consider providing financial assistance to teachers for the laptops.
Beltron, the nodal agency approved by the state government for implementation of information technology (IT) programmes in the state, has been requested to identify a suitable configuration of laptop and also to fix its price under three categories. It is expected that the price of laptops may range between Rs 25,000 and Rs 35,000 depending upon the volume of purchase for different configurations.Patna University colleges and departments are busy preparing the list of teachers who are willing to have laptops.
