The Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) Limited has been entrusted with the task of undertaking the feasibility study for having a rapid urban transport system in Patna. This is a part of Central government's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme for the all-round planning and development of Patna and Bodh Gaya.
According to the principal secretary urban development development department, S Jalja, the state government had asked the IL&FS, one of the country's leading infrastructure development and finance companies, to complete the exercise by December.
The urban transport system would take into account the whole gamut of public transport. It includes the purchase of quality buses, route plan, ticketing pattern, raising revenue through advertisement, appointing well-trained drivers for buses, ensuring women's safety etc. It will also take into account the fact that the whole system is disabled friendly.
