In an effort to raise the standard of Science education in the country, the Central Government is planning to implement a number of schemes at an estimated cost of Rs.2,000 crores over the next five years.
The proposals which have been recommended by the Oversight Committee for Higher Education will be placed before the Planning Commission later this week.
The committee has recommended starting a scholarship scheme for students pursuing B.Sc and M.Sc courses. As a part of the scheme, each of the 10,000 selected students will get Rs.1 lakh per annum as scholarship fee.
The Ministry of Science and Technology also plans to setup the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology to create quality human resources for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Within ISRO, the Government will provide training on management and leadership to scientists and engineers.
The Government is also planning to launch a scheme - Innovations in Science Pursuits for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) which will provide financial aid to approximately 10 lakh young innovators in schools.
