The National Security Guard (NSG)cover given to leader of the opposition Rabri Devi has once again set the stage for a confrontation between the RJD and NDA government with the state home department demanding a review of the decision.
The Nitish Kumar government believes the decision of the Centre to give NSG cover to Rabri was a `suo motu decision' taken without consulting it. Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah said the state government was already providing adequate security to Rabri Devi according to the norms laid down for former chief ministers. "The state government has deployed 195 security personnel for the security of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. One company of the CRPF has been deployed for the Railway Minister's security. Besides, the special branch makes periodic reviews of the security of both Rabri and Lalu," he added.
Amanullah said the government was not averse to giving NSG cover to Rabri but it would be a big burden on the state exchequer. "So, the government has asked the Centre for a review of the decision," he added.
However, RJD national spokesperson Shyam Rajak said: "Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is envious that he does not have NSG cover. So, he does not want the NSG cover to be given to Rabri Devi." He added that there was greater threat perception to Rabri since she was a mass leader, especially from the outlawed Ranveer Sena. He also threatened to launch an agitation on the issue soon.
