Sec. 144 Imposed in PU Campus; Students Stage Dharna

After a daylong riot and protests at Patna University campus on Friday, the administration imposed Section 144 in the region prohibiting groups from congregating in the campus or carrying any type of weapon within the university premises.

The proclamation, however, did not prevent various students' organizations from staging sit-in at Darbhanga House and disrupting classes at B. N. College, Patna College, and Science College to drum up support for their demands that includes removal of Patna University Vice Chancellor Dr. Y. C. Simadri and Proctor Kriteshwar Prasad because of "their dictatorial behavior".

The students were also demanding release of six students who were arrested on Friday during the riot at the university office.

As reported before, the students had been demanding revision in their academic calendar claiming the exams for postgraduate students were scheduled too close to each paper giving them no time to prepare for the exams adequately. They are also demanding removal of Proctor Prasad who allegedly waved a firearm at them during the attack on the university office on Friday.

The Vice Chancellor has categorically rejected their demands saying the new calendar was designed to restore some semblance in the university that had lost its academic standard and glory because of the absence of any discipline in the academia.
