State health Minister Chandramohan Rai, on Wednesday, inaugurated a number of new facilities at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) including the opening of a nursing school, an ICU in the neurosurgery department, a 202-bed dormitory for the nurses, and the installation of an incinerator to dispose off hospital wastes without causing any pollution.

The event, however, was marred by a number of protests.
Rai was ambushed by the agitating daily wage employees who have been on strike for last two weeks demanding permanent positions in the hospital.
Hospital administration also took the opportunity to pose its own demands including a demand by the college principal Dr. M. L. Verma who asked the minister to make available Rs. 30 lakh annually for advanced training of the college teachers outside the state.
Dr. Arun Kumar Agrawal, the head of the department of neurosurgery, also made similar demand for the nurses working in his section of the hospital.
