Conterversal RJD MP Md Shahabuddin landed in fresh trouble on Tuesday when an FIR was lodged against him and 40 others for allegedly assaulting three members of a rival gang and clashing inside the Siwan district jail.
Town DSP Sudhir Kumar said Shahabuddin, who is facing over 30 cases, had summoned three inmates of his rival group, led by Raj Kishore Sharma, to his ward. But, Vikas Kumar, Sanjay Kushwaha and Lahwar Manjhi refused to obey the MP's diktat.
Some of Shahabuddin's men tried to forcibly take them to his room, following which a clash ensued between both the groups, in which blows were exchanged and stones pelted. Shahabuddin himself was not involved in the clash, Jail Superintendent Lalan Singh said.
Nearly 18 prisoners suffered minor injuries in the clash and a subsequent baton-charge by jail guards. A case of clash and rioting had been registered against the MP and 40 of his men on the basis of a statement by the three inmates, said DSP, Sudhir Kumar.
An inquiry had been ordered into the incident, District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Mall said.
