Industrialists, Experts to Gather for Bihar Development

India’s top industrialists and experts from various fields are gathering in the Bihar capital next week to discuss the state’s development and ways to woo investments.

Some well-known faces from India’s corporate sector and experts from various fields will attend the first meeting of the Bihar Development and Investment Promotion Council (BDIPC) here April 23, Industrial Development Commissioner S. Vijayraghavan said here Friday.

“It will be another big event for the development of Bihar. Something will come out of the meet,” said Vijayraghavan.

In January, a global meet for a resurgent Bihar was held here followed by a mirror conference by the Stanford University of the US here early April. It was attended by NRIs, industrialists and experts.

The BDIPC was constituted by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take help and suggestions of top industrialists and experts for the development of the state and to attract investments.

“The government has involved a think tank comprising top industrialists and experts for suggestions and views on the state’s development,” a senior official said.

The industrialists likely to take part in the meet include chairman of the Aditya Birla Group Kumar Manglam Birla, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, Bharti Group CMD Sunil Bharti Mittal, RPG vice-chairman Sanjeev Goenka and ICICI Bank managing director and CEO K.V. Kamath.

The experts from various fields include Tarun Das, chief mentor of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), adman Suhel Seth, filmmaker Prakash Jha and educationist Anil Sadgopal.

Nitish Kumar Thursday said the visit of top industrialists and experts to Bihar was a positive development. “It will change the image of Bihar and help attract investments.”

Bihar hopes to attract investment in the coming years in agro-based industry, IT, tourism, power, sugar and basic infrastructure.
