Radio Mirchi Comes to Patna

Highly popular private FM radio station Radio Mirchi, after attaining unprecedented success in big metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and dozens of other cities, arrived in Patna on Monday amidst much fanfare with famous film actor Monoj Bajpayee and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi getting the honor of turning the switch on in the presence of several top executives and radio jockeys.

The round-the-clock radio station will be geared towards the people of Bihar and that would be reflected by its programming schedule and announcer who would not feign accents as if they are from other parts of the country, said the Chief Operating Officer of the Entertainment Network India Limited (ENIL), the parent company of the Radio Mirchi.

The event was organized at the Hotel Maurya in Patna where both Bajpayee and Modi arrived in a rickshaw. While Bajpayee turned on the station feeder, the Deputy Chief Minister adjusted the dial to 98.3FM to broadcast the very first program aired in Patna by the Radio Mirchi.

Others present on the occasion included the ENIL Chief Executive Officer Nandan Srinath, Patna station director Mandar Patwardhan, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Ramkripal Yadav and all six announcers selected to cover the wall-to-wall coverage of the radio station.

"I grew up on radio programs including Vividh Bharti, Radio Ceylon, and Radio Nepal and I am so glad that after a long hiatus, the radio is once again becoming a mainstream source of information, entertainment, and learning," Bajpayee said in his speech.
