The Patna High Court today adjourned the hearing on the state government petition challenging acquittal of railway minister Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi in a disproportionate assets (DA) case against them till July 4.
Justice R.K. Dutta reportedly accepted the appeal of C.R. Sinha, counsel for Lalu and Rabri and state's standing counsel Akhileshwar Prasad Singh, who sought adjournment of the case till July 4 to enable them to specify the date on which their seniors from the Supreme Court would be coming to argue their sides.
According to Sinha, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani had been approached for arguing the case in favour of the minister and his wife, while Singh said senior SC lawyer Harish Salve would represent the state.
Sinha said his clients would also be filing replies to the court's notice seeking to know their position on the petition filed by the state challenging their acquittal in the case on July 4 itself.
Lalu and Rabri were acquitted in the DA case by the special vigilance judge Munnilal Paswan in December last. The Nitish government had filed a petition in the Patna High Court on February 19 against their acquittal.
