Aiming for a paper-free work environment, the government is planning to introduce e-filing for stamp papers as well. Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Assocham, corporate affairs secretary Anurag Goel said, "Companies are now filing their papers online, with an exception to stamp papers. But we are working on this as well and soon even stamp papers can be filed electronically."
He informed that his Ministry is working on modalities to set up the technical infrastructure and is also talking to the state governments and other authorities for a smooth implementation.
At present, almost 90 per cent of company records are filed electronically and Goel said efforts were on to ensure all documents were filed online, including payments by companies. On the muchawaited Company Law Amendment Bill, he said that it was likely to be presented in the Winter session of Parliament. Efforts were also on to enact the Limited Liability Partnership Bill, which had been tabled in Parliament and was being considered by a Standing Committee.
The government is planning to set up an Indian Institute for Corporate Affairs with an investment of Rs 211 crore. With the detailed project report ready, the institute is likely to come up at Manesar. It will serve as a one-stop shop for all corporate issues and focus on academic as well as research programmes.
