Congress Prepares For Oct 2 Bihar Push

Indicating that a General Election was round the corner, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday declared that from October 2 the Congress party will hold public meetings in every constituency of Bihar. He said Union ministers will take part in all such meetings.

Talking to reporters in Patna, the senior Congress leader said the Left would be blamed for an early General Election.

"Congress wants the UPA Government to work for the people of the country and complete its term. However, we will not back out if the Left forces an early poll," Singh stressed.

About the campaign to be launched coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Singh said two big public meetings will be held in every constituency of the state to highlight the achievements of the UPA Government.

Apart from many other issues, the core one to be raised in these meetings would be the nuclear deal with the US. Congress ministers and leaders would educate the masses on how the deal was in national interest, Singh pointed out. Charging the Left of unnecessarily making an issue out of the nuclear deal, he said it was in interest of the country to meet its energy requirements.

At the same time, however, the Congress leader pointed out that the Left was a friendly party and felt they were raising the nuclear issue out of political compulsions in states like West Bengal and Kerala. Along with the Congress, UPA partner RJD too will enter the poll mode from October. RJD leaders said that from October Railway Minister and party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav will campaign across the state.
