The country's economy is likely to expand by 8.5-9 per cent this fiscal, Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said today. Ahluwalia told reporters on the sidelines of a FICCI meeting here that even if the economy grows by 8.5 per cent, it would be "very good".
He also said inflation is in "comfort zone" and is expected to remain around the current level. The country's GDP recorded a growth of 9.3 per cent during the first quarter this fiscal. Inflation, on the other hand, has declined to 3.79 per cent for the week ended August 25 from a peak of 6.69 per cent in January this year.
