Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a press conference in Patna on Monday, blamed the Central government for Bihar's poor energy situation saying while the state needed a minimum of 1500 MW, the Center agreed to allot only 1170 MW to Bihar and that too was not made available as the state currently was getting only 820 MW creating all sorts of problems in the state.
"We are totally dependent on the Center for power in Bihar. Yet, our basic needs are not being met and the leaders from Bihar in the UPA government are not doing anything either to alleviate the predicament," Kumar said while appealing to the leaders from Bihar to exert pressure on the Central government for more power for the state.
The Chief Minister also took a shot at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Bharat Heavy Engineering Limited (BHEL) for failing to complete repair and modernization work at Kanti and Barauni power stations.
"They have failed to deliver as per their commitment not once but twice. We conformed with all of their terms and conditions, yet they failed to complete the projects. Now we have no option but to seek alternative source of power other than hydro-electrical since it is apparent help is not on its way," Kumar said.
