The Bihar government is going to appoint 5,000 lecturers for all the nine universities of the state. The process of appointment is likely to start by the end of October and may take some time to complete.
All the universities have been empowered to make appointment through a a seven-member committee. This move was taken following the dissolution of the Bihar State University service (Constituent colleges) service Commission. The committee will have nominees of the Chancellor, the state government, the universities concerned and subject experts.
According to the human resources development minister, Brishen Patel, Magadh University with 1,600 posts, tops the list of vacancies. Patna University too has about 350 vacancies after it surrendered many posts of the teachers following the de-linking of Plus-two
education from the colleges under it.
However, it can not be said just now as to how many posts the other eight universities are going to surrender as they are also planning to de-link the Plus-two education next year. In that way the number of vacant posts should certainly come down.
The last time the college teachers were appointed in a large number was about a decade ago during the RJD rule. But that appointment was dogged by controversy. Though all the teachers had joined their posts the issue is still pending with the vigilance department, which is sitting tight over the file as many of those appointed then are close relatives of the senior ministers of the present regime.
