The Magadh University Teachers Association (MUTA) on Wednesday demanded from the government and university, restoration of the month long Durga Puja holidays in the larger interest of the teachers and students. The university has curtailed the Puja holidays from about one month extending up to the popular Chhath festival to 10 days only. It has declared Diwali and Chhath holidays separately this time. Thus, university and colleges will remain open in between Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals.
According to MUTA president A K Singh Thakur, the Durga Puja holidays are important for teachers in the sense that they have to go outside the states to take part in the seminars, refresher courses and national-level conferences. Besides, those involved in research work find this period more convenient to take up serious academic work, he said adding that the students who will be in festive mood will be least bothered to attend classes.
