Ghana Fraudster And Accomplice Arrested In City Over UK Job Scam

The Next time you get an e-mail promising a lucrative job abroad, you had better be extra cautious.

The police have arrested a citizen of Ghana and a 53-year-old woman for cheating an engineer on the pretext of providing him a job in the United Kingdom.

The police said that they had already duped the engineer, Eko Miloni, of £3,500 and were arrested when they had come to collect the second instalment.

The two accused were picked up from Janpath Hotel in Connaught Place on Monday night. The police said that Miloni (28) had applied for a job on a recruitment website.

"After a few days, he received an email promising him a job with an engineering firm in United Kingdom. The complainant replied to the mail and he was called to Delhi to make arrangements for his journey abroad," said a senior police officer.

The complainant came all the way from Tamil Nadu in the hope of getting a job, the police said.

"We are baffled by the fact that the racket was being run in connivance with local people, in this case a woman. Earlier there have been cases where only African nationals were involved in such crimes," added the officer.

The police said that the accused Charles Anderson had come to Delhi a year ago and was living in Safdarjung Enclave. The other accused Ranjan lyer is living in Basant Lok.

"The complainant used to get emails from an ID maryrose777@yahoo.co.uk. He replied to the mails and was trapped," added the officer The complainant was staying at a guesthouse in Paharganj. "Miloni informed the police when he smelt a rat as the accused kept on delaying his visit abroad. We arrested him from a Janpath hotel on Monday night," added the officer The accused have been taken into police custody.

"We basically want to know how the two accused got in touch with each other There's also the possibility that they might have cheated other people as well," added the officer.
