After LA, Bihar's Super 30 Reaches New York Film Fest
FOR the numerous batches of Super 30 that have passed out of the Ramanujam School of Mathematics and got into the prestigious IITs across the country, October 23 will be yet another tribute to the long hours of struggle and hard work they have put in.
A 60-minute film on these IIT aspirants will be screened at the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) in New York on that day. The film called "Super 30" is directed by Christopher Mitchell and produced by Veronica Hall. The film shows how students struggle to make their way to the chosen batch of Super 30 and crack IIT-JEE tests. It also depicts "the real power of edu cation to remake lives and communities". The British film director and his team spent several days shooting the film at Kumhrar. The film had been screened at the Los Angeles film festival in California this April. When Super 30 mathematician Anand Kumar along with additional director general of police Abhyanand had started the batch six years ago, they did not even remotely fathom the kind of accolades they would receive or the kind of impact they would make. "Mystudentsmakeitamidst odds. We provide them tiny roomstostayforeightmonths. We keep the fire burning in them till they make it big. It is a befitting tribute to the rich mines of talents in Bihar," says Kumar. Super 30 has sent 152 students from poor socio-economic background to IITs in the last six years. The group got a 100 per cent result this year. According to Anand, the film, more of a documentary, had no heroes. "The arduous journey of my students is the hero. It is about a maligned and impoverished state registering its big presence steadily," says Anand. The fest starts from October 22 and will conclude on October 28. source: Express News Service 18/Oct/2008 By Tiwari, Section BiharBrains In News Posted on Sat Oct 18, 2008 at 02:35:12 AM EST
