"The strength of Ranchi traffic police is a paltry 135 that includes 120 constables and 15 officers against a requirement of 500. National Games is a prestigious event for the state. We are expecting a rise in volume of traffic plus an increased VIP movement from the capital to the stadiums and vice versa. The success of the games would begin and end with good traffic management," Ranchi traffic super-intendent of police Dadan J. Sharma told The Telegraph.
Though the date of the National Games has not been yet decided but it would be pit additional pressure on the traffic police. "We have filed a request with the concerned authorities requesting additional enforcement. In addition we have asked for at least 200 NCC cadets who will be trained on traffic management and paid honorarium to ensure no hitches at the games site or anywhere along the route. "Besides, the proposal also includes arrangement of food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) so that all personnel deployed are well looked after," Sharma added. Regarding the various gizmos that have also been requisitioned for the National Games, the superintendent of police pointed out that with such a prestigious event on the cards, it becomes imperative to enforce absolute discipline on the streets at all time. Drunken and rash driving and breaking speed limits are a common phenomenon on the city roads. The superintendent of police said to check that people abide by traffic rules police personnels should be equipped with latest equipment like speed radars, breath analysers and mobile speed breakers.
