The urban development minister, Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, on Monday lauched the first phase of central government-assisted the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM). The project was launched at Mundichak in Bhagalpur on the anniversary of Pundit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, leader of erstwhile Bharatiya Jan Sangh.
Twenty-four thousands urban poor families of ten towns of Bihar will be provided houses by the government.
According to Chaubey, if the detail project reports of the towns are approved by the Union government than the state will receive Rs 500 crore of JNNRUM Fund to complete the project under the BSUP. In Patna the project will be launched at Jagdeo Path. The HUDCO will construct 12,596 units at the estimated cost of Rs 313 crore in Patna and the satellite towns of Phulwarisharif, Danapur and Khagaul.
The dwelling units will have full amenities, including light and clean environment for the urban poor. Each dwelling will have the carpet area of 27 square metres with each having one bed room, hall, kitchen and a balcony as well. The units will be constructed in co-operation with the Centre, state government and Patna Municipal Corpotation. Another 2,000 units will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 54 crores at Bodh Gaya.
