Man Loses Rs 70,000 From Online Tickets Had Been Booked From Various Portals

A professional from Ghatlodia was duped of Rs 70,000 by online fraudsters. Online tickets had been booked from various portals through his account.

According to Satellite police officials, Sandip Kajrekar, resident of Simandharnagar Flats, Ghatlodia, and employed with a construction major in Satellite area, had gone to a shopping mall on February 22. When he swiped his card, he got to know that he had already exhausted his credit limit. Shocked, he checked out with his bank and got to know that airline tickets had been purchased from various web portals on his account. Kajrekar then approached police officials with a complaint.

"The portals of MakeMyTrip, PayPal and Yatra were used in the fraud. The fraudsters booked tickets from Mumbai to Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad in three domestic airlines including Air Deccan. We now have to get details of the booking and travelling from the websites," said KK Patel, inspector of Satellite police station.

The credit card was used between February 9 and 20 for bookings of tickets worth Rs 70,000. Officials have questioned the bank officials on their inability to furnish the transaction details in time to the victim. "Had they informed the victim on time, we could have prevented some of the transactions. In the Mumbai case, we could get success due to timely intervention," said a Satellite police official.

During the investigation, cyber sleuths found out the IP address of the computer used in the crime that showed the location of Chennai. Police officials will inform concerned officials.

This is the fifth case of credit card fraud registered with city police, from which, police have got links in two major cases.
