About 33,000 non-teaching employees of universities and colleges in Bihar continued their strike for the fourth day on Thursday affecting academic and examination work.
The six-day strike on the call of the Bihar State University and College Employees Federation would continue till Saturday.
According to the federation's general secretary Ganga Prasad Jha, about 1,500 employees from different universities staged a daylong dharna in front of the state legislature on Thursday.
Several political leaders belonging to the RJDLJP, CPI and CPM visited the dharna place and supported the genuine demands of the employees. They requested CM Nitish Kumar to intervene directly to end the deadlock soon in the larger interests of both employees and students, Jha said.
Federation general secretary said that a few ministers of the Nitish government have supported the employees' demands and they had written to the chief minister seeking an early implementation of the agreement reached between the government and federation representatives in 2007.
All India Employees Federation regional secretary S.Ghosal Das also visited the place and held discussion with the agitating employees. Jha said that employees would stage dharna on Friday.
