Bihar government misused Rs 2.61 crore behind unnecessary purchase of kerosene, Comptroller and Accountant General of India (Civil) report presented in both Houses of state legislature said on Wednesday.
Principal Accountant General Arun Kumar Singh after submitting the report to both the houses told reporters that he on December 24 last year had sought information from the Chief Secretary about purchase of kerosene for 522 generators being used in several police stations in Bihar.
Singh said the CAG on September 2, 2007 had also sought inormation from the Home department but the the department was yet to reply to the querries of the CAG.
However, IG (Provisions) informed CAG office on November 13, 2007 that generator sets were being used by different police stations and enclosed photcopies of ten sets.
On the other hand, on a specific query the SSPs of Purnea and Gaya districts told CAG office the generators were lying idle due to non-availability of kerosene. Hence the information furnished by IG (Provisions), Singh said and added furnishing incorrect information to audit is in contravention of section 18 (2) of CAG's, DPCs Act and rule 28 of Bihar Financial Rules. Singh asked Bihar Chief Secretary R J M Pillai to get the matter examined throughly at his end.
