Railways have launched a massive ticket-checking drive at various sections of Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR).
During the ticket- checking drive on the Patna-Buxar section of the division on Tuesday, 110 passengers were held travelling without ticket, of which 77 of them were allowed to go after realising a sum of Rs 30,000 as fine from them. However, about 33 of them were forwarded to jail for not paying fine on the spot, sources said.
According to sources, railways have launched this drive to create awareness among the common passengers to travel with valid tickets only. In the drive carried out in the last fortnight, the railways have realised a huge sum of Rs 7.68 lakh as fine from those caught red-handed without ticket.
On date payment: Railways made on the spot payment of Rs 1.52 crore to 39 railway staff who superannuated from Danapur division on February 29, sources said.
