They said they appreciate the Union government's decision of setting up a world class university in Patna. But they would like PU to be developed as a world class university instead of setting up a new university. PU has got the basic infrastructure, with more than 200 acres of land in the state capital, premier colleges and competent staff.
The university has been the alma mater of great social and political leaders, besides eminent scientists, academicians, bureaucrats and technocrats of the country.
Hence PU deserved a Central university status, they added.
Patna Science College Alumni Association general secretary Kriteshwar Prasad reminded the chief minister of his commitment regarding conversion of PU into a Central university and urged him to take necessary steps for fulfilling the same.
Representatives of several student organisations have also demanded conversion of PU into a Central university and appealed to the political leaders to use their good offices in fulfilling this long-cherished desire of the university community.
