Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Moots 'Core Group' To Bring Bihar Leaders Closer
The faction-ridden Bihar unit of the Bhartiya Janata Party may soon get a 'core group'. This is an attempt by the party's central leadership to bring closer Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and his detractors who fought a bitter battle in the national Capital recently. Modi emerged out a clear winner in the 'secret ballot' that the BJP decided to go for to defuse the crisis.
"We are mulling a 'mechanism' for our Bihar unit. Though what exactly it would be is still to be finalised, it is surely going to be an empowered group - like a coordination committee - to look into major issue. The plan is in the initial stages and would take some time to see the light of the day," a senior BJP leader told The Pioneer. This core group would take on board the 'dissident' senior leaders from Bihar so that their grievances are also redressed. "Without going into the fact who won and who lost in the secret ballot, we have to keep in mind that the dissidents were also part of the BJP. We can deliver results in the next Lok Sabha election only when we put up a united face," another party leader asserted. Realising that the root of the problem that gripped Bihar BJP was the 'dissatisfaction' among party cadre, who were annoyed with the behaviour of alliance partner Janta Dal (U), the party high command also plans to evolve a mechanism wherein the grievances of the common workers is looked into and solved immediately. Party sources revealed that Modi has been conveyed about the sentiments of the central leaders and he has agreed to "accept everything that would add strength to the State unit". After it was announced that he would stay in control in Bihar, Modi said he did not consider the result as his victory or defeat and he would try to look into the problems of each and every section of the party.
It is learnt that BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate LK Advani would soon summon Modi and other senior Bihar leaders to the national Capital to discuss the formation of the core group. State Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, who made an abortive bid to replace Modi, State president Radha Mohan Singh, a close aide of Sushil Modi, and the RSS' pointsman in Bihar would also be present at the meeting. However, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, who was the observer for the secret ballot that decided Modi's fate, refused to comment. "Modi himself said he did not feel the result of the secret ballot as his victory or the defeat of his opponents. The party has asked him to take along everybody and he would certainly do that," Naidu told The Pioneer. A senior party leader said ahead of the party high command desperately wants to improve its tally in Bihar the next general election, where it has fresh grounds to gain, and is in no mood to annoy any section of the party. The BJP has five members in the Lok Sabha from Bihar, a State that has 40 seats in the lower house of Parliament, and it is desperately making attempts to improve its tally.
