In his renewed bid to mobilise public representatives, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday met elected representatives of civic bodies from across the state and asked them to work towards makeover of towns.
The Chief Minister, who has earmarked last Monday of every month for meeting public representatives, heard 84 civic bodies' members including mayors and deputy mayors.
Kumar said the state Government had already started CM civic body development plan under which the main approach road and a park would be developed within limits of every municipal corporation. He reiterated that bureaucrats should listen to public representatives.
Kumar exhorted local bodies' members to set an example by carrying out development work in their respective areas even if it was of symbolic importance. "Let us start a park for our children and the aged. Municipal bodies must use its assets properly and broadbase its tax structure to boost its revenue," Kumar told the public representatives.
The CM said the BPL list for rural areas was ready and for urban areas it would soon be ready.
"As the cut-off point for BPL living in towns is not yet decided by the Centre, there has been a delay in preparing the list," he said.
He said the Centre did not concede the state's demand for increasing kerosene quota by 34 per cent and hence an urban BPL family was getting only 2.5 litre as against 3 litre to a rural BPL family.
