Patna Becomes Hell During Rains
The problem of waterlogging continued to haunt parts of Patna on Monday. The worst affected localities being Driyapur Gola, Khaitan Market, Hathua Market, Congress Maidan, parts of Rajendra Nagar, parts of Postal Park in Kankerbagh and Road No. 2 of Kankerbagh Colony.
This despite the efforts of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) which not only got city main drains cleaned before monsoon, but also introduced some temporary structural intervention to lessen the problem. ![]() Vehicles, rickshaws and cycles wading through waterlogged roads in Patna There were some good results of these steps in the early part of rainy season as water used to drain out within 24 to 48 hours even from low lying areas, but the spate of heavy downpour in the last 72 hours created scenes similar to those of the previous years when the city used to face acute problem of water logging. "Life is hell for us due to waterlogging on the streets for the last three days," rued Paras Kumar of Dariyapur Gola. Click On "Full Story" For More... Rahul Sharma of the same locality said his family was having a harrowing time as water had entered their residence. "It is really tough spending days being confined on bed," he said.
Even the residents of posh Rajendra Nagar locality had a tough time as parts of the area witnessed waterlogging. "Instead of being drained out, water level appeared to be on rise in the last 12 hours," said A K Shahi, a resident of Road No. 6-C of Rajendra Nagar. PMC commissioner Mihir Singh, however, appeared optimistic when asked about the problem. "Water is being drained out, albeit a bit slowly in some low lying areas, but most of the waterlogged area would be free from the problem in the next 24 hours," he said. Meanwhile, RJD workers burnt an effigy of CM Nitish Kumar to protest the government's failure to address the problem of waterlogging in the city. Source: Times News Network 15/July/2008
