Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) For Increase The existing Power Tariff In Bihar

It is essential to increase the existing power tariff in Bihar to meet the net annual deficit of Rs 303 crore. These are one of the issues which came up during the first day of the public hearing on tariff petition of the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB).

The hearing was conducted by the Bihar State Electricity Regulatory Commission (BSERC) at the S K Memorial Hall here on Tuesday.

The total outstanding BSEB dues on the state government and consumers stand at Rs 6,428.79 crore during 2006-07. The cost of power purchase is Rs 1.88 per unit while the income on existing tariff is Rs 1808.93 crore a year. The Bihar government's grant to the BSEB is Rs 720 crore a year.

The BSERC has justified the increase in the existing power structure to fill the gap of the existing net deficit. The commission is set to announce its new power tariff rate for 2008-09.
