After successfully putting the Mahavir Cancer Institute on the world health map, the institute administration are now gearing up to set up what they call the nation's biggest hospice in Hajipur to treat patients struggling with various forms of cancer.
The 100-bed hospital is to be built at the cost of Rs. 3 crore that would be met by fund provided by the Central government, Institute Director Dr. Jitendra Kumar Singh said at a press conference in Patna on Saturday.
The hospital would work in close association with voluntary health workers, social activists, psychologists, and yoga trainers to provide the right atmosphere and environment to patients and their family members dealing with a serious issue like cancer, Singh said.
Dr. L. B. Singh, also the Governor of Rotary International, Patna, pledged a contribution of Rs. 10 lakh to the Mahavir Cancer Hospice to get the project moving.
Several other cancer specialists including Dr. P. M. Parikh of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Vijay Gupta, Dr. S. N. P. Sinha, and Dr. H. N. Prasad were also present on the occasion, among others.
