Patnaites Will Have To Wait For Another 10 Months To Have Better Motorable Roads
Work on Patna roads to be over by June 2009
Patnaites will have to wait for another 10 months to have better motorable roads. As per the revised deadline, the city roads would now be completed by June next year. Besides, the network of Chiraiyatand overbridges across the railway line extending to Kankerbagh Mor on the east and Karbigahiya on the west is expected to be completed by March-end next year. This was announced at a press conference addressed by state road construction department officials, including secretary S Shiv Kumar and engineer-in-chief K R Sinha and Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation (BSBCC) MD A K Jha on Thursday. They, however, did not give a time frame for the completion of the construction work of 3,989 km of state highways, 3,734 km of national highways and 8,095 km of the district roads. "The construction work is taken up on road-to-road basis. Therefore, no deadline can be set for completion of the state highways and other roads," Kumar said, adding that work on some roads has been started, while tenders about other roads are either being processed or being invited. Kumar also said the work delivered by the contracted agencies, including the Central undertaking, was not up to the mark and they have been warned.
Sinha said work on the construction of Patna roads has been delayed due to the fact that the contract of Tantia Constructions for 29 roads in the city has been rescinded. The department has now assigned five roads to the BSBCC while the decision on other roads is being taken, he said, adding the earlier deadline for the completion of the roads was June this year which has now been extended to June next year. The road construction department maintained the money allotted for road construction is being utilised on steady pace. Source: Times News Network 08/08/2008
