In wake Of Recent Serial Blasts In Delhi ,Bihar Police Gears Up For Festive Season

In the wake of the recent serial blasts in Delhi and other parts of the country, Bihar has decided to be extra-cautious during the festive season
, a time when a large number of people come out onto the streets and gather at puja pandals all over the state.

The top brass of the police department has initiated a series of meetings with the divisional and district police authorities to monitor the policing and assess the preparedness of the forces in tackling any unprecedented situation.

DGP D N Gautam and principal secretary (home) Afzal Amanullah on Sunday set off for Bhagalpur to hold a high-level meeting there, but due to inclement weather their plane could not land and had to return. On Monday, they will fly to Muzaffarpur to hold the meeting there.

Gautam and Amanullah said that a meeting had already been held with the police authorities in Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Rohtas and Aurangabad. The one in Patna was held on Saturday. The officials have been handed over a long checklist for maintaining peace and communal harmony during the festive season apart from checking the crime.

Sources said the officials at the meeting, which was participated by Commissioners, regional IGs, DIGs and SPs, demanded that additional force be deployed in areas considered as sensitive in the state during the pujas. The authorities directed the department to take personal initiative in keeping a strict vigil on the law and order situation and tap in on the intelligence sources whenever needed.

While maintaining that this was a scheduled meeting being held in due course since the past two years, Amanullah said the festivities of Eid, Dussehra and Chhath have been falling in quick succession for the last two years and police will have to be on high alert during this period.

Gautam said the purpose of the meeting is to review and assess the situation in each district and fill any possible dearth in infrastructure, including requirement of forces, vehicles and communication network. "Our aim is to maintain peace during the festive season and we will do so at any cost," he said.

The Patna meeting on Saturday was incidentally held at a time when the crime graph in the state capital had suddenly shot up with incidents of murder, kidnap, theft and loot being reported almost daily. Gautam, at the meeting, expressed concern over the rise in crime rate, especially with more and more young people coming into its ambit. In this connection, the DGP mentioned the kidnap and murder case of a Class-IV B D Public School student, Manish Kumar, by his own schoolmates.
