Phase-III Poll Update : 48% Voting In Bihar


Lok Sabha Elections 2009 in Bihar (Phase-III) : Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Madhepura, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, and Munger.

  • Overall 50% voting in the country in the third phase

  • 48% polling in Bihar

  • Polling % in 11 constituencies :
          o Madhepura - 48%
          o Katihar - 52%
          o Kishanganj - 50%
          o Bhagalpur - 45%
          o Purnia - 46%
          o Munger - 45%
          o Banka  - 50%
          o Khagaria - 45%
          o Araria - 50%
          o Begusarai - 45%
          o Supaul - 45%
  • Voting ends for phase - III in Bihar

  • Poll boycott at 32 polling stations on development issue

  • 1:50 pm : Polling % : Katihar (28%), Bhagalpur (27%), Purnia (32%), Begusarai (16%), Munger (26%), Araria (20%), Kishanganj (30%), Supaul (31%), Banka (31%), Khagaria (24%), Madhepura (27%)

  • 1:14 pm : Voting continues in Mongra (Katihar)

  • 11:15 am : Peaceful polling so far in Bihar

  • 11:10 am : Kishanganj : Unable to control the rush police resort to baton-charge. 3 voters seriously injured.

  • 10:00 am : About 12% voting till 10 am in Bihar

  • Jamshedpur : BJP leader Tuntun Singh shot dead.

  • Begusarai (Gopalpur) : Two bombs found from booth numbers 95 and 98 defused.

  • Purnia : Names of  many eligible voters with valid voter id card absent from voters list

  • Khagaria : Poll boycott at some booths

  • Long queues seen at polling booths due to not so hot weather today

  • Bhagalpur : More reports of EVM malfunction

  • Begusarai : LJP supporters create ruckus at polling booth; voters return home

  • Munger : Voters prevented by musclemen at 3 booths (28, 132, 135)

  • Madhepura : Voters boycott poll at at some booths (93,94,95). "No development, no vote," says voters.

  • EVM malfunction at some booths in Banka, Kishanganj

  • EVM malfunction at Tilka Manjhi (booth no 202) in Bhagalpur

  • Araria : Voters boycott poll at booth 185-190

  • Voting begins in Bihar
