Cops Plan Health Camps For Villagers
Apparently taking a cue from chief minister Nitish Kumar's repeated stress on people-friendly image of police, Patna cops are readying to undertake an exercise which is likely to change the face of the district police.
Under the exercise, medical check-up and health awareness camps would be organized in those areas of the district which are devoid of proper health care facilities. Apart from doctors and paramedical staff, local police officials would attend the camps, likely to be organized from June this year. Patna Police Hospital's medical officer Dr Parmeshwar Ojha said, "We would also organize special programmes in hamlets and schools to generate awareness about hygiene and some common diseases." He said information gathered from different sources regarding common diseases would be presented in a simple manner before the villagers using LCD projectors. Experts would be present to remove doubts, if any, of the villagers. "We have already requested the police headquarters to provide a laptop, an LCD projector, a screen and a portable genset," Dr Ojha said and added leaflets containing information about diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, cancer and Aids would also be distributed among villagers. Plans are also afoot to organize health awareness camps in schools located in far-flung areas. "Making the young ones aware about the importance of hygiene and common diseases is a long term investment as they are the future of society," Dr Ojha said.
The Patna police organized health check-up camps in the financial year 2008-09 too, benefiting 12,000-odd villagers of Naxal-hit Paliganj and Masharui areas. Medicines as well as over 1,000 spectacles were also distributed among the needy at these camps. "This year we have added the awareness aspect. Films on topics related to national integration would also be screened for the villagers," said Dr Ojha. A feedback mechanism is also being developed and those attending these camps would be given phone numbers and addresses of doctors attending the camp so that the villagers could contact them in hour of need.
