Plan For Luxury Buses In Patna, Gaya

You must have seen luxury tourist Volvo buses plying on Bihar roads. Patnaites may now be able to commute to their work places or other destinations within the city limits in such air-conditioned buses.

The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) plans to introduce low-fl0or AC buses on city routes in the State Capital. It has also decided to run city buses in Bodh Gaya.

State Urban Development ministry has outsourced the project to BSTDC.

Nearly 70 luxury buses may operate in Patna while Bodh Gaya could have around 30 buses.
More stoppages on local routes will be created with display boards giving details about the time and routes of the buses.

"The Urban Development Department has entrusted the BSTDC with the task of offering city services in Patna and Bodh Gaya. The BSTDC will purchase these buses but some private players will operate them. Tender for the project will be floated soon after consultation with the Urban Development Department," said Rashmi Verma, Principal Secretary, Tourism Department.

Under the project being funded by the Urban Development Ministry, it has been decided to launch around 100 buses at both the places.

There will be fixed routes and timings of the buses, displayed on boards at the stoppages, she said.

"Considering the huge population of the State Capital, about 70 buses will be launched for Patna while in Bodh Gaya 30 will be introduced. We are in the process of floating tender and subsequent purchase of buses. The plan is likely to be launched by August this year," she said.
