Bihar To Launch Immunization Drive
The Bihar government will launch an ambitious state-wide micro planning exercise to ensure that routine immunization services reach every village in the state.
To be undertaken in June and July, the initiative would roll-out across the state from June 1, 2009, state health department sources said. The micro planning exercise follows an incentive driven campaign `Muskaan ek Abhiyaan', wherein delivery of routine immunization services was provided in every government health and aganwadi centre since its launch in October 2007, the sources said adding as a result of the intiative, the routine immunisation coverage has reached 41.4 per cent. Buoyed by the success, the state government is planning to extend immunization coverage to reach every child in the state. With the completion of the present micro planning exercise, routine immunization services would also be provided in the riverine areas, hilly areas, brick kilns and slums, the sources said. Special focus was on remote areas, villages with mahadalit population and districts where there was inadequate manpower and health staff for carrying out vaccination services, the sources said.
