The upcoming Medili fecare Multispeciality Hospital (MMH), in Kankarbagh, Patna, will be the first major private sector investment in the health sector of Bihar. The 400-bedded hospital intends to provide tertiary level healthcare set up in the state and the eastern region in particular.

It would generate direct and indirect employement for over 5,000 people of Bihar. The hospital will be ready in the next 30 months.

The foundation stone was laid by deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi along with Bijendra Prasad Yadav, industry minister, Nand Kishore Yadav, health and family welfare minister, Ramanand Prasad Singh, transport minister and Arun Kr Sinha, MLA. Also present at the occasion were doctors, along with administrators and many other personalities of the city.

With an investment of Rs 150 crore over a period of 30 months, Assotech Limited, one of the leading developers in the country, will develop the hospital. Assotech Limited identifid health sector as one of its key area of growth for the next decade. With the rapid growth in population and better healthcare facility expectations, expenditure on the healthcare sector is continuously on the rise.

Sanjeev Srivastva, MD Assotech Limited said: "To cater to this demand, healthcare sector will need an investment of over Rupees One Lakh Crore in the primary, secondary, and tertiary sector. Although government has earmarked substantial investment for the sector but without the involvement of private sector, the mission of the government to provide `better care for life' to one and all would remain incomplete."

The hospital aims to be a multi-specialty hospital providing state of the art facilities at par with international standards. It will offer specialties including, cardiology and cardiac surgery, neurology and neuro-surgery, plastic/cosmetic surgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, orthopedics, oncology, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology and gastro surgery, and dental and maxillo facial surgery.

The general specialties will encompass general medicine , general surgery, pediatrics, eye, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics; three support facilities pathology, radiology and nuclear medicine. "Bihar will be a pride to begin our diversification in the healthcare sector. We will now provide an alternative to the patients who were otherwise solely dependent on facilities outside the state" , said Srivastava.

The public health sector is very large in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. It is only in coutries such as India, in African nations, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and other countries that the citizens are expected to take care of their own health and do not have a regular monitoring system unlike the National Health Scheme in Great Britain or the Australian Health Commission in Australia.

In India this is a sign that the sector is picking up and companies such as Assotech are best placed to support.
