'Medical Colleges To Have Same Syllabus'
Aryabhat Knowledge University (AKU) has decided to bring in uniformity in the standard of medical education being imparted in different medical colleges of the state.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the principals of all the medical colleges in the state held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of AKU vice-chancellor S N Guha. It was decided that all the medical colleges in the state will follow the same syllabus with some minor variations and that they will have the same dates for the examinations and publication of results. These colleges will have the syllabus prescribed by the MCI as the baseline for designing their own syllabi. For this, a Syllabus Revision Committee with two senior most teachers from each college as members and the senior most principal as the chairman was also proposed. The new uniform syllabi would be introduced from the next academic session (2011-12). Guha pointed out that the statutes relating to governance of medical education were being framed. Once these statutes come into effect, the process of affiliation of medical colleges with the AKU will start. The examination would be taken up first, he said. Guha also asked the principals to furnish to the university details of sanctioned posts and the number of working staff in their respective colleges so that steps may be initiated to fill up the vacant posts. The principals were also asked to give details of their problems and difficulties, if any. The principals of Patna Medical College, Nalanda Medical College, Darbhanga Medical College, S K Medial College, Muzaffarpur, ANMCH, Gaya, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur, and Rai Bahadur Tunki Sao Homeopathic College, Muzaffarpur, attended the meeting.
